This 10-place sushi counter presents the city’s most discerning diners with a traditional Edomae sushi experience in a refined yet relaxed setting. Nestled in the heart of Hollywood Road, UMI is a perfect marriage between some of Hong Kong’s most important historical landmarks and the rich traditions of the classic Japanese culinary style.

Upon stepping through the spotlit entrance on Hollywood Road, diners are transported into a sophisticated and intimate space reminiscent of the finest omakase sushi bars of Tokyo. Light wood tones dominate the minimally decorated interior, which features a 7-meter-long counter made of a single piece of Japanese Hinoki wood, and beautifully constructed dark wooden conoid chairs designed by George Nakashima. True to Le Comptoir ethos, there is a showpiece painting on the wall of UMI, an entrancing multi-textured canvas in white by celebrated artist Yayoi Kusama.

Tradition, sophistication and dedication to a craft are on full display at UMI, which takes Hongkongers on a contemporary journey through a centuries old practice. In beautifully inviting and tranquil surrounds, it is a true escape for the city’s Japanese food aficionados looking for a truly exquisite experience for all the senses.
